This tunic was made for the legendary actor Henry Fonda, playing the part of “Lt. JG Douglas Roberts”, in the 1955 motion picture “Mister Roberts”, co-starring Jack Lemmon. The khaki military tunic has a notch lapel, four flap patch pockets, gold eagle buttons, gold winged insignia, shoulder boards, and “H. Fonda”, “R. Robert,” hand written on the lining. Internal “Warner Bros.” stamp and “MR,” “US NAVY,” “EC40” with “WB” dry cleaning tag. This garment was not used in the final version of the film and has been altered.
“Mister Roberts” is a comedy set in WWII and revolves around Fonda’s character of the same name. Roberts wants to leave the safe and quiet US cargo ship he is currently occupying to join the action on land. He runs into trouble when his tyrant of a captain isn’t willing to sign his transfer request.
