This dressing robe was worn by the character “Fran Davis” portrayed by actress Shelly Winters in the 1954 motion picture “Playgirl”. This full length, navy robe with a small maroon embroidered swirl pattern throughout, crimson red satin lapel, cuffs and lining, hook & eye front closure, and self belt. The original Universal International label is sewn into the interior with “Shelly Winters” handwritten. Designed by Bill Thomas.
Ms. Winters wears this garment while on the phone attempting to get her old job back and in a deleted scene. “Playgirl” is a dramatic film-noir starring Shelly Winters, Barry Sullivan, and Colleen Miller. This film follows the story of nightclub singer, Fran Davis, while she educates her out-of-town friend “Phyllis Matthews” (Colleen Miller) on the ins-and-outs of life in the Big City.
